Mast Lancer Tattoo Machine Review

Mast Lancer Tattoo Machine Review

Mast Lancer is the latest tattoo machine from Mast Brands, and it looks like a latest version of the Archer and Saber wireless machines. However, unlike these previous models, the Mast Lancer has some superior features and specifications. For example, it is much lighter, has a slimmer design, and a thicker, more comfortable grip.

Also, it has a powerful motor and comes with two longer-lasting batteries. Additionally, it includes notable features such as a 3.5mm stroke, an LED screen, advanced gear system technology, adjustable voltage, and compatibility with major needle brands.

Mast Lancer Tattoo Machine Review

Motor Speed And Performance

Like most Mast products, the Mast Lancer comes installed with a custom coreless motor. This motor has a speed of 10,500 RPM at 12 volts. I have been using this tattoo machine for the past many months. And during this time, I have never noticed any performance issues with the motor. Thanks to its advanced gear system, it operates quietly with minimal vibrations. This feature allows me to smoothly transfer tattoo ink into the skin without causing damage.

The Mast Lancer allows adjustment of the voltage between 5V to 12V. However, it’s recommended not to exceed 10V as it can burn or damage the motor. The voltage adjustment feature is also very precise, allowing increments or decrements of 0.1V by pressing the corresponding buttons. This feature gives me great control over the voltage adjustment.

Design And Build Quality

In terms of design and construction, the Mast Lancer tattoo machine is well-balanced and comfortable to hold. However, its grip is too thick, which can make it difficult to hold for longer tattooing sessions. As a result, it can lead to hand fatigue. The thick grip may cause hand fatigue during extended use. Extra grips are included to address this issue.

In addition to this, the Mast Lancer weighs 190g, slightly heavier than other popular models such as the Mast Archer (186g) and Dragonhawk Mast Pen (186g). Nonetheless, it feels lightweight and lighter than the Ambition Soldier (210g) and Mast Flip Pro (268g).

Stroke Length

As a tattoo artist, stroke length is the most important feature of a tattoo machine. I prefer using separate strokes for lining and shading. For example, I typically use a tattoo pen with a 3.5mm stroke for shading and color packing, while for drawing solid lines, I use 4+ strokes.

However, regarding this particular wireless rotary tattoo machine, two different variants are available, with 3.5mm and 4.2mm stroke lengths. I purchased the 3.5mm stroke length model. During testing, I created a few tattoo designs to test this stroke length and was impressed with the shading and color-packing performance.

However, I was not satisfied with its performance for lining work. A 3.5mm stroke is not powerful enough to push larger needle groupings to achieve solid lining work. To get solid lines, there is a need to push extra hard hitting, which can damage the skin. However, users can try this on practice skin. Therefore, this machine is excellent for shading and packing but not for lining work.

In addition to this, it is compatible with all tattoo cartridge needles. This means, this single machine is enough to  create various tattoo styles and techniques. Further, it also comes with 1205rs needles.

Display Screen Quality

This rotary tattoo machine has an LED digital display screen which displays information about the battery and the adjusted voltage. Furthermore, the LED screen is very clear and has no scratches. However, the screen size is comparatively smaller compared to the Mast Archer and Ambition Soldier.

Battery Performance

No one can compete with mast lancer wireless tattoo machines regarding battery performance. Mast Lancer has two rechargeable batteries with a 1900mAh storage capacity. According to the advertiser, each can last 8 to 12 hours on a single charge. This means both batteries can give 24 hours of battery performance for continued tattooing work.

To test this claim, I fully charged the battery and adjusted the voltage to 9.5v, which is typically used for lining work. It’s important to note that a 3.5mm stroke length machine may not be ideal for lining work. After running the machine for more than 6 hours at this voltage, the battery only dropped 70% from 100%.

Based on this test, it’s possible the battery could last over 12 hours on a single charge. However, for the most accurate battery life, users should refer to the manufacturer’s specifications and adjust for factors like voltage and needle size. Furthermore, some other notable features of Mast lancer batteries are a fast charging port and built-in protection from short circuits and overheating.

However, when users are replacing the battery, be careful about the wrap. In case of wrap damage, it can damage the whole unit of the Mast Lancer Tattoo machine, even it can explode during operation in hands.

Price

Regarding pricing, the Mast Lancer is slightly more expensive than other top rotary tattoo machines available in the market. For example, compared to the Ambition Soldier, Mast Tour, Rattlesnake rotary tattoo pen, and Mast Saber, the Lancer is more costly. However, it is cheaper than the Mast Flip and Tattoo Fold Pro.The Mast Lancer is available around $199.99 with a 3.5mm stroke length. Similarly, a 4.2 mm stroke is available for around $205.

Note: These prices fluctuate with time, so it’s best to check the latest price.

Critical Analysis And My Final View

Overall, the Mast Lancer is a great tattoo machine packed with many premium features. Its design and build quality are impressive and much lighter than various rotary models available. However, from my personal experience, while the Mast Lancer feels super lightweight when held for longer tattoo sessions, its grip is too thick, which can lead to hand fatigue when holding it steadily. But I overcame this problem by using an extra grip that comes with the package.

Furthermore, the powerful 10,500 RPM motor is impressive in speed and performance. Also, the machine doesn’t heat up or create any extra vibrations in long tattoo sessions. The stroke length is also impressive in creating stunning tattoo designs. However, it could not be more capable of pushing larger needle grouping and creating big lines.

If you want to do most of the solid lining work, you can buy it with a 4.2mm stroke. Or there are some best tattoo machines for lining, which are specially perfect for solid outlines work. The display quality of  Mast Lancer is also good, but the screen is too small compared to other wireless tattooing machines.

The battery performance of the Mast Lancer is amazing, and it can last up to 12 hours easily. Further, it comes with an extra rechargeable battery with the same capacity. Considering all these factors, the Mast Lancer is an excellent portable wireless tattoo machine. After looking at these things, I want to give it an 8.5 out of 10.
