 Despite its low cost, this tattoo Pen has many high-quality features. For example, it has a lightweight, ergonomic, and durable design and a decent-quality motor and power supply. It is also compatible with a wide range of tattoo needles, which allows ink artists to work on various tattooing projects. Furthermore, it comes with a complete kit that includes all the necessary items to get started on tattooing work.

Design And Build Quality

This wireless tattoo machine has an aluminum frame that is lightweight and corrosion-resistant. The Dragonhawk Mast Pen weighs only 120g, making it one of the lightest rotary machines available. Even with a battery kit, it’s still lightweight (160g) to hold steadily. Compared to other machines like Romlon, Mast Archer, and Ambition Soldier, this Dragonhawk tattoo Pen is much lighter. While in size, the pen is 4.6 inches long, making it comfortable to hold continuously in hand.

This tattoo pen is well-built and durable, providing a solid feel. Also, this ergonomic design machine fits perfectly in my hands like an actual pen, making it perfect for me to use in longer tattooing sessions. Furthermore, its parts are also easy to clean and replaceable. The head of the machine is easy to unscrew, unlike other devices with stiff and difficult-to-remove heads. Overall, it is a well-made and perfect tool for me to enjoy working on the go, like attending a tattoo convention.

Motor And Speed

This tattoo machine is equipped with a custom Mast motor that runs at 10,000 RPM. The motor appeared very powerful during testing and ran quietly with minimal vibration. As a result, it provides excellent performance and can smoothly transfer tattoo ink onto the skin. The Mast custom motor maintains a consistent speed during operation. You can easily adjust the voltage between 6v and 9v. 

However, the power supply of this machine could be of better quality and is a major durability issue. Also, in testing, I noticed it got hot on continuous use. For example, after 4 or 5 hours, it starts heating up. If you want to turn on the machine, press the button located on the power supply and hold it for 3 seconds. This will turn on the machine.

Dragonhawk tattoo pen is also available in wireless mode. The wireless kit includes a compact 1300mAh battery that performs well, lasting up to 6 hours on a single charge. However, it’s worth noting that the wireless kit does come at a higher cost.

Needle And Cartridge Compatibility

Dragonhawk Mast Pen is compatible with needles from significant brands so that you can use any needle cartridge. This machine especially comes with WJX brand needles. Due to their unique shell design, WJX needles are preferred by many tattoo artists worldwide. These needles offer faster tattoo ink absorption and increased ink storage capacity.

Wide Tattooing Applications 

The Dragonhawk mast pen gives full flexibility to adjust the needle from 2.8mm to 3.5mm. This allows you to perform various tasks like lining, shading, and color packing. Also, it works perfectly for permanent makeup. Although a 3.5mm stroke length is not perfect for creating solid lines, it is still an excellent rotary tattoo machine for making beautiful, smooth lines. For shading, it works great. I mainly use it for color packing and shading. So, if you need an all-around performer tattoo gun, DragonHawk Mast is perfect.

Kit 

Dragonhawk’s mast comes with a great starter kit that provides some essential items to start tattooing work without buying anything additional. The package includes a pen-style rotary machine, a tattoo power supply, a carry case, a kit box, and needles. 

However, it’s important to note that the kit does not include other necessary items, such as ink and ink caps. Even cheaper tattoo machines, like the STIGMA Complete, have more tattooing accessories. So, it will not be a perfect option if you’re looking for a complete beginner-friendly tattooing tool with a full kit.

Price

The Dragonhawk Mast rotary tattoo machine comes in three different versions: the S5 wireless kit, the machine kit, and the wireless kit. The S5 model has a wireless power supply and is available for around $110. The machine kit version is about $75, while the wireless kit version is available for about $85.

 Compared to most rotary wireless tattoo machines, the Dragonhawk Mast is relatively inexpensive because many models are available at a higher price, like the Mast Tour Pro, Ambition Soldier, and Mast Lancer. However, its wireless model is more expensive than other cordless tattoo machines in my collection like the Rattlesnake Rotary Tattoo Pen, Wormhole Cordless Tattoo Gun, and Solong Tattoo Pen.

Critical Analysis Of Dragonhawk Tattoo Pen Review

The Dragonhawk Mast is a lightweight, well-crafted tattoo pen machine that is incredibly easy to use. Its stroke length of 3.5mm makes it ideal for both lining and shading work, ensuring smooth results. However, 3.5mm is not powerful enough for large needle grouping,  which is unsuitable for solid lining work. But it’s excellent for color packing and blending. Furthermore, its pen is also of premium quality and perfectly fits in my hand like an actual pen. 

This rotary tattoo machine is configured with a 10,000 RPM custom mast motor. This motor seems powerful enough to punch the needle smoothly without creating any extra noise and vibration. However, as I continued running, it got hot. Also, the power supply could be better quality to provide consistent power. Fortunately, the machine also comes in wireless mode, featuring a 1300mAh battery and a working voltage of 6v to 9v.

In addition to this, it is compatible with major brands’ needles and comes with 20 WJX cartridge needles. Overall, the Dragonhawk Mast is excellent for beginners, as it is easy to use and affordable. It’s fair to call it the best affordable tattoo machine available at a much more reasonable price.
